| On this special tour we take you to Domaines who produce some of Burgundy’s best-known Grand Cru and Premier Cru wines. Premier Cru represents just 10% and Grand Cru a minute 2% of the wines produced in Burgundy and the latter is often very difficult to taste on a day-to-day basis. We will visit three growers during the day and taste a mix of Premier Cru and Grand Cru red and white Burgundy plus some excellent Village wines – described by many as Burgundy’s best-kept secrets. We drive through Burgundy’s famous wine villages and stop to take a close look at some of the regions best known vineyards; e.g. Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Corton and Le Montrachet. Throughout the day we provide an informative commentary on Burgundy wine. Also included is an excellent three-course lunch, with wine, in local restaurants famous for their typical Burgundy cuisine. This tour is for a maximum of eight people to ensure a very personal wine tasting and guided commentary experience. |

There are approximately 4,500 winegrowers in Burgundy and the vast majority are small, independent family Domaines of around 6 hectares (20 acres). Burgundy has many “Hidden Secrets” and on this tour we take you to winegrowers and villages that are off the beaten track to growers who rarely receive visitors. These men and women are often described as the true characters of Burgundy, and make fabulous wine from tiny parcels of land in traditional ways. We usually meet the winegrowers (and often their dogs too!) who tend the vines, make the wine, mature and sell it. This is great wine produced with heart-felt passion and rarely found outside of France. On this one-day tour we will visit three of Burgundy’s “Hidden Secret” winegrowers and enjoy a traditional Burgundy lunch in a village restaurant serving dishes typical to the region. We will visit “Hidden Secret” winegrowers and areas, such as for example, the Hautes-Côtes, Côte Chalonnaise and small, family growers in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. You will meet true Burgundy characters, visit charming cellars and taste amazing wines. Ian Wyatt, UK |

ExceptionElles Experience New for 2012, we have developed a tour that takes guests to visit three ExceptionElles during the day. These ladies are exceptionally hard-working juggling family and wine on a daily basis. Their wines offer something different and they, in many cases, bring a "softer" touch to the winemaking. We will meet the ExceptionElle in person, visit their cellars, learn about their winemaking style, and taste excellent wines from Burgundy's Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. We will stop in the vineyards to get close to the vines. We will taste some of Burgundy's top Appellations as well as some amazing hidden secrets. On this one-day tour we will visit ExceptionElle winegrowers, and enjoy a wonderful three-course Burgundy lunch in an excellent village restaurant. This one-day tour is 210 Euro per person and can be combined with any of our other tours for a two or three day visit. |

Wine and Wheels two-day tour
The Exceptional Experience two-day tour is organised with our partners, Bourgogne Randonnees, the specialist bike touring company. It comprises one day on either our Classic or Grand Premier tour where we chauffeur you in our Land Rover Discovery and guide you through Burgundy and one day on a self-guided bike tour through the vineyards. Luxury and leisure! The first day begins with us welcoming you at your accommodation in or near Beaune. We drive into the vineyards – some say it is like a wine list coming alive – and we describe the day ahead. Stopping in the vineyards to help you understand Burgundy better, we explain the basics of Burgundy – its wine growing areas, grape varieties and the appellation system. We explain the winemaking process, what is happening in the vineyards and wineries at the time of your visit, introduce you to the winegrowers and guide you through the tasting. On a typical day we visit three family-owned Domaines in the Cote de Nuits, Cotes de Beaune and/or Cote Chalonnaise and taste around 20 red and white wines from the bottle and, if possible, barrel. We taste regional, village and premier cru and on our Grand Premier day, some Grand Cru. Included is a three-course lunch with wine in a local village restaurant serving typical Burgundy dishes. On the second day you will collect your bike from Bourgogne Randonnees in the heart of Beaune to begin your self-guided tour through the roads and paths of Burgundy’s vineyards. You can select from two pre-planned routes – north or south. Head north through the villages and vineyards of Savigny-Les-Beaune, Pernand Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton and Ladoix-Serrigny. This 20km (12.5 miles) circuit is through wonderful countryside and includes a superb tasting lunch at Domaine Comte-Senard of six wines and an excellent Coq au Vin. Or, head south for a 30km (18.5 miles) ride through Pommard, Volnay, Meursault to Puligny-Montrachet where you will enjoy a tasting lunch at Olivier Leflaive. You will also tour their cellar before lunch. Both circuits include a map, route notes, local advice and suggested tasting stops and wine-tasting lunch on a fully equipped hybrid bike. This two day tour can comprise either a one-day Classic Wine Tour and one-day Bike Tour at 285 Euro per person or one day Grand Premier tour and one day Bike Tour at 325 Euro per person. |

Independent Winegrowers Wine Fair, Lille (Salon des Vins des Vignerons Indépendents)
|
"We enjoyed the weekend very much and very well organised. The wine fair was excellent especially with you walking us around. The wine tasting was great fun – so much enthusiasm from Ulrich and great stories from Jean-Luc. Excellent idea to have a private dinner. A good mix of guests and great company" For the second year we are hosting a very special weekend alongside the largest Wine Fair in France, held in Lille, exclusively for the Independent Winegrowers. Our first weekend in November 2011 was a sell-out success and many guests have already put their name down for 2012! We limit the weekend to 20 people to make sure it is a highly personal, small group experience. On the third weekend each November, Lille in northern France hosts the country’s largest Wine Fair devoted to the small, independent family winegrowers. Over 600 winegrowers take part and visitors can taste and buy wine from every wine area in France. We have joined with Domaine Ulrich Dujardin, one of our most popular winegrower visits in Burgundy, to host an exceptional experience weekend. Email david@burgundydiscovery.com for more information, pricing and reservations. |

Burgundy Discovery has successfully created many bespoke special events for private groups of wine enthusiasts, students, business groups and associations. Recent events include a one day tour for a group of trainee Chefs from California, an Investment club from the UK, a company management team from Switzerland, a wine club from Croatia and students studying for their WSET Diploma. Here are the thoughts of Robert Wemischner, the California pastry chef and food writer: “My sincere thanks for a great wine day in Burgundy with the 20 students on my trip. It was truly a wonderfully, magical day, with informative and charming visits to wineries and the lunch in Meursault was perfect. The snow and fireplace at the first winery with the lovely hors d’oeuvres just set the stage for an enchanting visit. You were consummate and erudite hosts and we hope to do it again next year.” |
