Burgundy Discovery wine tours

Daily tours

Our One day English language full day guided tours are for everyone who enjoys wine offering the opportunity to explore the wines and beauty of Burgundy over a single day.

We run a tour any day of the week except Sundays and French Public Holidays. The family winegrowers we visit close on these days preferring to keep them family days as is common throughout France. We generally do not run our tours from the end of November to the end of February. If you have a special requirement within this period please ask us.

All tours include a pick up and return to your accommodation in or near Beaune, or if you are travelling in by train, Beaune railway station.   A typical day begins between 9.00 – 9.15 and ends around 16.30.

Tours are personal, informal, informative and fun!  You are driven in our Land Rover Discovery into the vineyards through the beautiful Burgundy countryside and stunning centuries old villages.  We will explain the basics of Burgundy – its wine growing areas, grape varieties and the appellation system. We take you through your personal information pack containing maps, facts and figures, pen pictures of the winegrowers we will visit and tasting sheets for the wines we will taste.

Throughout the day we take a closer look at the vines to appreciate ‘terroir’ and aspect, answering your questions on Burgundy and its wines. We visit ancient cellars and working wineries to explain the winemaking process and what is happening in the vineyards at the time of your visit.

On a typical day you will visit three, family owned domaines and taste between 15 to 20 wines.  We taste red Pinot Noir, and white Chardonnay and Aligoté from the bottle and, where possible, from the barrel across a range of vintages.  We will help to get you up to speed with essential information – the Appellation d’Origine Controlée  structure, the grape varieties and the wine making traditions of the region.

In collaboration with carefully selected local restaurants renowned for their typical Burgundian cuisine, we will also enjoy a three course lunch with wine.

Tours focus upon the vineyards of Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits & Côte Chalonnaise. Experience wine lists come alive as we tour world-famous villages such as Meursault, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, Savigny-Les-Beaune, Nuits St Georges, Vosne Romanée, Gevrey Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Mercurey, Givry and Rully.

There is opportunity to buy wine, from the Domaine's we visit, often unavailable outside France, and at vineyard prices.

'Vintage Experience Tasting'

Together with Mon Millesime in Beaune, www.monmillesime.com, a specialist in old wines, we offer a sensational wine tasting experience combining our Grand Premier or Gourmet Grand Premier full day tours with an additional tasting in the early evening, of some of Burgundy’s old vintages.

The day follows the format of our Grand Premier or Gourmet Grand Premier day until we arrive at Mon Millesime at 5.00/5.30pm.

Here we meet Philippe Renaud who will give a short introduction before moving to an explanatory tasting, starting with wines from the early 2000s or 1990s. Next we move on to the “middle ages” of early 1990s or 1980s before concluding with a Pièce de Resistance wine of around 30-40 years of age. We will taste some of Burgundy’s top appellations. Philippe will explain what to look for when choosing, cellaring, ageing, serving and tasting an older wine.

We will return you to your accommodation around 7.30pm.

Our Vintage Experience Tasting requires a minimum of FOUR clients (not necessarily from the same party).

The Vintage Experience Tasting is an additional 150 Euro per person  when combined with our Grand Premier tour or our Gourmet Grand Premier tour.
